Set/6 Hand Painted Kashmir Papier Mache Coasters in Box
These elegantly hand painted Papier Mache boxes are made by master craftsmen of the Kashmir valley of India . This art form has been passed on from father to son for generations since the Persian times.
Each box is a new mold. A French word to mean mashed paper- this process is done by first soaking paper in water till it disintegrates. It is then pounded and mixed with an adhesive solution, shaped into molds and dried. Then it is split in half to make a box, after which it is painted with intricate desings with details of the flora and fauna of the valley and embellished with gold leaf.
Varnish is applied 4 to 5 times with lacquer to get the hardness for durability and gloss.
